Somewhere along the road I meet Hodward Epper, a talented photographer. We are heading the same way, and Hodward climbs in. Along the way we become inseparable, invisible friends. Hodward is also a pupil of Hopper’s. We combine our strength. The camera is swapped for the screenshot. The journey goes on, image by image; in order to take a picture you don’t even need to leave your chair. The after-work is huge, but we live in pictures, after all. We plan and tweak, our visions blur together. By a careful process of choosing and framing, and through persistent editing we can filter from the Street View scenes of something that’s at the same time of the past but also of the future. Ominously nostalgic: fascinatingly filmic, virtual, but unfortunately real. At times beautiful still: if not always light, at least with light present; stealthily almost iconic features enter the images. As if we were receiving ossified postcards from another time…
